Hillary Clinton attacks Trump for delaying tough Russia sanctions, forgets her own soft record

Hillary Clinton attacked President Donald Trump for his purported weak response to Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Congress passed new sanctions on Russia this year, but the president has not yet signed them.

“It’s the first time we’ve had an adversary attack us that we did not respond to,” she said Thursday at a Woman’s National Democratic Club event in Washington D.C. where she received an award for “Democratic Woman of the Year.”

“Congress passed overwhelmingly new sanctions on Russia and Putin’s cronies, oligarchs and others, forcing the president to sign it, but he hasn’t implemented it. What’s the lesson from that? The lesson is you can get away with attacking America, sewing discord and divisiveness, affecting our elections and this president and administration are not going to hold you accountable,” she said.

As Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton famously pushed the “reset” with Vladimir Putin and the Russians, which is widely viewed by foreign policy observers to have failed improving relations. The Russians defied the Obama administration on Syria, Iranian nuclear energy, missile defense in Eastern Europe, and the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces treaty.

In addition, the U.S. made an extremely unfavorable deal with the Russians on nuclear weapons disarmament. It appears that if any administration was weak on the Russians, it most certainly was the Obama administration.

As has become customary, Clinton also had plenty of excuses for what caused her to lose to President Trump a year ago, blaming everyone from former FBI Director James Comey to the Russians.
