A white female student at the University of Hartford is facing a felony bigotry charge after admitting to disgusting behavior toward a black roommate.
Brianna Rae Broch admitted to licking her ex-roommate’s plate, fork and spoon, plus smearing her own bodily fluids on the victim’s backpack, The Hartford Courant reported.
Broch, who is no longer a student at the school, admitted to doing much worse on her Instagram page, but told police that “anything else she bragged about on social media was a lie in an attempt to ‘appear funny,’” according to The Courant.
One such Instagram post reportedly stated:
“Finally did it yo girl got rid of her roommate!! After 1 ½ month of spitting in her coconut oil, putting moldy clam dip in her lotions… putting her toothbrush places where the sun doesn’t shine, and so much more I can finally say goodbye Jamaican Barbie.”
The victim, Chennel Rowe, said she experienced “severe throat pain” while rooming with Brochu and told police that “she has felt ostracized” while sharing a room with Brochu, who often ignored her — Rowe said she asked to change rooms.
Brochu, 18, countered that she “began to lash out due to a ‘hostile environment’ caused by [the victim’s] rude behavior, not compromising, and posting Snapchat videos of me sleeping and making fun of me snoring,” according to the newspaper.
She also said she requested a room change, but was unsuccessful.
University President Greg Woodward called Brochu’s conduct “reprehensible,’’ and said in a release that he met with the victim and “reiterated my personal commitment to ensuring she has all available personal and academic resources the University can provide.”
“It is clear there is work to be done at our University to ensure that all students feel safe, respected, and valued,” Woodward stated. “The conversations that began with student groups, faculty, and staff yesterday are going to continue and involve our full community.”
Rowe spoke with Fox News about the incident.
“Rubbing bloody tampons on my things, so like she posted pictures of my Steve Madden bag that I had been sleeping next to the whole time on my bed with blood stains on it,” she said.
