A wedding in Florida descended into chaos when a wedding crasher set off a brawl with the bridesmaids that ended with her arrest.
Shelby McDowell, who was arrested Sunday, did not have an invitation to the wedding at the Hammock Beach Resorts in Palm Coast, according to Flagler Live. But she told sheriff’s deputies that her boyfriend, Darby Johns, was there as a guest.
McDowell, 20, claimed she attended the event to spy on Johns, 26, and when she walked into the ballroom she found him dancing with and kissing 25-year-old Crystal Munoz. McDowell allegedly poured a drink on the dancing pair, then punched Munoz in the left eye before taking off for the bathroom, Flagler Live reported.
But the drama had only just begun as Munoz and a group of furious bridesmaids marched into the bathroom after McDowell. They reportedly pulled her out of a stall, dragging her by the feet before proceeding to punch her.
Resort manager Kevin Amico reported to deputies that he saw “two women grabbing and swinging fists at each other” when he entered the bathroom. He called for a female security officer when he arrived at the scene since he assumed that “members of the bridal party were in the bathroom and indecent,” according to the arrest report.

But as the sounds from within the women’s bathroom grew louder and screaming was heard, Amico and another male security officer “entered the bathroom and he saw two females fighting,” with McDowell allegedly on top of Munoz.
According to Flagler Live:
When a deputy made contact with Munoz she was “somewhat intoxicated” (nothing unusual at a wedding) but she had “a swollen left cheekbone and blood shot left eye.” The way she remembered it, she and Johns were merely walking to the ballroom when “someone” threw a drink at them. Munoz said she was then “punched in her left eye twice and when she turned around, she saw a woman running away.” She was among the bridesmaids who rushed the bathroom stall, where she recognized McDowell.
But she did so, she told deputies, by looking under the stall door, not by going after McDowell. McDowell, in her telling, just left the stall and “that is when things got crazy and she left the bathroom.” Munoz wanted to pursue charges, and was shaken up to the point of not being able to fill out the a sworn written statement.
Meanwhile, Johns told deputies that McDowell was no longer his girlfriend, though it wasn’t clear if that was as a result of the incident or they had already broken up prior to the confrontation.
McDowell was arrested for battery and taken to the Flagler County jail, according to Flagler Live. She was released on her own recognizance 12 hours later.
