Liberals seem to have no problem turning on one of their own, especially if they dare to insult the Obamas.
Following news of film studio executive Harvey Weinstein facing allegations of decades of sexual harassment, former New York Times columnist Frank Rich had a simple question.
How did “exemplary parents” like Barack and Michelle Obama allow their daughter Malia to intern for the Weinstein Company earlier this year?
Biggest mystery of @nytimes Weinstein story: How exemplary parents like Obamas let their daughter work there. The stories were out there.
— Frank Rich (@frankrichny) October 6, 2017
The paid internship in the production and development department ended in August when the older Obama daughter headed to Harvard.
Rich’s question seemed like a fair one, given that the Hollywood mogul’s alleged behavior was an “open secret” for years. Could the Obamas not have been aware, especially with Weinstein’s connections to powerful Democrats like themselves, the Clintons and others who enjoyed the director’s deep pockets?

But Rich got slammed by his fellow liberals for taking a “shot” at the former president and his family.
Second media figure today I’ve seen take this shot at the Obamas. Beyond bizarre. https://t.co/RknR6p96hr

If you think having “exemplary parents” ever protected any female from a legion of dirtbags out there, you’re dangerously out of touch. https://t.co/q4UT9RVu4T

It’s amazing how some people wake up in the morning just dying to blame the Obamas for shit that had nothing to do with them. https://t.co/lALlMfKCHT

No. He just wants the opportunity to smear the Obamas.

And of course, someone always finds a way to get race involved.
Yes let’s blame the black Family and not the actual abuser and the people who covered for him. https://t.co/w81JQAGG9L

Blame it all on the Black guy, an American tradition https://t.co/TTtw4E4oXK

Malia’s work with Weinstein was certainly not her first foray into the Hollywood film industry as she interned with Steven Spielberg in 2014 and Lena Dunham in 2015.

Congratulations to Malia Obama and her new internship with Lena Dunham’s “Girls.” http://t.co/cOfybk7M5t

Apparently the Obamas weren’t too worried about possibly exposing their daughter to the many predators in Hollywood. But some pointed out that the young Obama was safe with Weinstein because of the balance of power.
That’s the biggest? Not that he was able to get away with this shit for 30 years? Really? https://t.co/WztQBrSOza

He didn’t go after powerful women… or their kids. He sucked up to them to burnish his image https://t.co/DWjFXgEI6x
— Paula Froelich (@Pfro) October 6, 2017
It’s about power differential. As a 1st Daughter, Malia has power and is at a low risk for harassment from HW.
— … (@clochary) October 6, 2017
You don’t seem to have thought this one through, buddy. Weinstein had no power over Malia. Sexual assault and harassment is about power.

And while Rich was raked over the coals by those in his own camp, one has to wonder why he and “other culture gatekeepers” didn’t expose the sordid stories earlier themselves since they were already “out there.”

Biggest mystery is why Frank Rich and other culture gatekeepers didn’t follow up on the “stories” before, given that they were “out there” https://t.co/GruFBbJN45

Hi Frank — can you point me to links of stories you wrote about Weinstein, based on your insider knowledge? Thanks ever so!
— Kerry Reid (@kerryreid) October 6, 2017
Where is the self-reflection by the @nytimes and yourself for failing to run with these “out there” stories? Otherwise this is a cheap shot. pic.twitter.com/LNk67Ycju0
— Mary Whitney (@WordyMary) October 6, 2017
Hey Frank — just did a quick google search and can’t see any stories you wrote about Weinstein and sexual abuse. Why is that?
— Kerry Reid (@kerryreid) October 6, 2017
Seriously, Frank: If the “stories were out there,” why didn’t you report them? That’s actually the “biggest mystery” here.
