The brother of the man who killed more than 50 people at a Las Vegas country music concert said his family has no idea why his brother, Stephen Paddock, would do that.

“He was just a guy. Something happened, he snapped or something,” Eric Paddock told DailyMail.com.

“We know absolutely nothing, this is just, we are dumbfounded,” he said in a telephone interview from his home in Orlando, Florida.

“We have absolutely no idea. Our condolences go to the victims and all their families,” he said.

Eric Paddock told the Mail that he and his brother did not speak frequently.

“He’s my brother, we don’t have a very close relationship but we talk occasionally,” he said. “There’s no rhyme or reason here, it makes no sense.”

Their 90-year-old mother is “in shock,” he said.

“My mother is 90 years old, lives down the street from me, we’re just completely dumbfounded,” he told the Mail.

“You can imagine how this is affected her.”

Paddock expressed concern for the well-being of his brother’s girlfriend, Marilou Danley, 62, who was earlier deemed a person of interest by authorities.

“She has nothing to do with this, at least from my perspective,” he said.

In a press conference around 6 a.m. Las Vegas time Sheriff Joe Lombardo said they do not believe Danley was involved in the shooting.

Eric Paddock said he had no idea what might have motivated, what is the worst mass shooting in American history with more than 50 victims dead and more than 400 injured.

“He has no political affiliation, no religious affiliation, as far as we know. This wasn’t a terror attack,” he said.
