If Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer knows anything, it’s how to divide and he’s hard at work trying to do just that with President Donald Trump’s support base.
…by repeatedly claiming Trump agreed to nix the idea of a wall along the southern border, telling him: “OK, we won’t do the wall.”
In an interview on the “Pod Save America” podcast released Friday, Schumer shared intimate details of the meeting he and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi had with Trump earlier this month after the president ended the Obama administration’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

“On DREAMers, [Trump] said, you know, that he understood that they didn’t come in through any fault of their own, that they’re good Americans, good kids,” the New York Democrat said in the interview.
“And then he said he wants the wall in return,” he continued. “And we said ‘No. No wall, Mr. President.’ And he tried that for about 15 minutes, but he’s not going to push me around verbally, or any other way.”
Schumer then dropped the hammer on what has been one of Trump’s most popular promises throughout the campaign.
“And he finally said, ‘OK, we won’t do the wall,” the Democratic lawmaker insisted. “We’ll do some other kind of border security.’”
Never mind that his claim contradicts what Trump shared on social media the day after their dinner meeting.
“No deal was made last night on DACA,” the president said. “Massive border security would have to be agreed to in exchange for consent. Would be subject to vote.”
And Trump also made it a point to reiterate his intent to build a wall.
“The WALL, which is already under construction in the form of new renovation of old and existing fences and walls, will continue to be built,” he tweeted.
