Man who claimed his ‘fake news’ hoaxes helped elect President Trump found dead

The man who bragged that his fake news websites got President Donald Trump into the White House has been found dead.

Paul Horner, whose fake news websites propagated outlandish rumors like President Obama running a Muslim museum, Trump haters being paid $3,500 to protest and Bill Murray running for president, was found unresponsive in his bed last week, the New York Post reported.

According to the medical examiner of Maricopa County, no foul play is suspected.

Horner said that he “hated” President Trump, but told the Washington Post that he was responsible for his victory one week after the presidential election.

“I think Trump is in the White House because of me. His followers don’t fact-check anything — they’ll post everything, believe anything,” he said. “His campaign manager posted my story about a protester getting paid $3,500 as fact. Like, I made that up. I posted a fake ad on Craigslist.”

Horner insulted the intellect of American voters, believing that he tricked people into voting for President Trump.

“Honestly, people are definitely dumber. They just keep passing stuff around. Nobody fact-checks anything anymore — I mean, that’s how Trump got elected,” Horner said.

“[Trump] just said whatever he wanted, and people believed everything, and when the things he said turned out not to be true, people didn’t care because they’d already accepted it. It’s real scary. I’ve never seen anything like it,” he added.

Horner said his intention was to damage the president’s campaign but “maybe I wasn’t messing them up as much as I wanted — but I never thought he’d actually get elected.”

“I didn’t even think about it. In hindsight, everyone should’ve seen this coming — everyone assumed Hillary [Clinton] would just get in. But she didn’t, and Trump is president,” he said.

The medical examiner said his death could have been due to an “accidental overdose.”
