One would think the former Attorney General of California would know a thing or two about the U.S. Constitution.
Sen. Kamala Harris offered up another seemingly clueless take on the law when she tweeted about the “serious injustice” of bail.
It is a serious injustice that for the same offense, someone who can pay bail gets out, but someone who can’t pay sits behind bars.

The California Democrat, who is being touted as a potential 2020 presidential candidate, was hammered on social media earlier this month when she took on another “injustice,” slamming Education Secretary Betsy DeVos and essentially robbing men on college campuses of due process when accused of sexual assault.

Earlier this month, Harris also declared that health care was a “civil right.”
Health care is a civil right. #MedicareForAll

The 52 year-old senator may have forgotten some elements of how the legal system works but Twitter users were quick to educate the Democrat on the purpose of bail.

I’m so old I remember when prosecutors wanted to send criminals to jail. ?#dobetter

I’m not saying there isn’t room for systemic improvement, but the point of bail is to ensure the person shows up for court appearances.
— Mindy Clark (@MelindyLou2) September 25, 2017
Bail is an incentive to show up for court.

Um, that’s what bail is. You put up cash/property to guarantee your appearance in court.
You were the CA AG, right?

I found a really easy solution to not being in jail: Don’t commit crimes.
— StarFortress (@StarFortress) September 25, 2017
Aren’t you a lawyer? What did law school teach you? Effective lawyers can draw a reasonable bail if they know what they’re doing. https://t.co/bGnsLxs5la

You are welcome to pay the bail for anyone you wish to be free from your personal checking account. You can correct your perceived injustice
— Joe America Radio (@JoeAmericaRadio) September 25, 2017
So then you want to eliminate bail? Wow, that is really progressive…
