Steve Bannon’s Catholic criticism hits a bit too close to home for Cardinal Dolan

Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon sat down with Charlie Rose for a 60 Minutes interview set to air Sunday, but one snippet that’s already been released to the public has New York’s Cardinal Timothy Dolan in quite the tizzy.

“The Catholic Church has been terrible about this. The bishops have been terrible about this,” Bannon said when asked about the church’s stand on the DACA issue. “You know why? Because [they have been] unable to really, to come to grips with the problems in the church. They need illegal aliens. They need illegal aliens to fill the churches. It’s obvious on the face of it.”

“They have an economic interest in unlimited illegal immigration,” the Catholic Bannon continued, making it clear that his disagreement isn’t about doctrine, but about Dolan in this case being “another guy with an opinion.”

To which Dolan responded via Sirius XM’s Catholic Channel:

“I don’t really care to go into what I think is a preposterous and rather insulting statement that the only reason we Bishops care for immigrants is for the economic because we want to fill our churches and get more money,” Dolan said. “That’s insulting and that’s just so ridiculous that it doesn’t merit a comment.”

Hmm, responding a little too quickly and forcefully there, aren’t we Cardinal? Methinks Bannon might have been flying a little too close to the target!

In truth, for leftists, supporting endless immigration from Third World is all about three things or a combination thereof – money, power, and Democratic votes. The hand-wringing virtue-signalers would have us believe they believe in ‘compassion’ and all that jazz, but where is their compassion for ordinary Americans or the victims of illegal alien criminals?

There is none, because it’s all a giant con-game.

New York City mayor Bill de Blasio chimed in with a tweet lionizing Dolan and accusing Bannon of profiting from “racism and hate.”

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops also bristled at Bannon’s comments, saying in a statement: “Our pro-immigration stance is based on fidelity to God’s word and honors the American dream. For anyone to suggest that it is out of sordid motives of statistics or financial gain is outrageous and insulting. This isn’t Catholic partisanship. The Bible is clear, welcoming immigrants is indispensable to our faith.”

Riiight. The Bible is for open borders and endless immigration to the West and only the West. Tell us another whopper.

No wonder the Catholic Church is dying on the vine!

Oh, but don’t worry. Cardinal Dolan and his ilk have a plan to fix it … just don’t tell Steve Bannon!
