A man and his parents from India were arrested after Florida police found his beaten wife and child being held against her will in their home.
Silky Gaind, 33, reportedly called her parents in India to alert them of the abuse she was suffering at the hands of her husband, Devbir Kalsi, 33, and his parents Jasbir, 67, and Bhupinder Kalsi, 61, who were all arrested after police found Gaind beaten and being held against her will, according to Fox 13.
Devbir Kalsi allegedly asked his parents to fly to the couple’s home in Florida from India in order to help him “counsel and discipline” his wife for “being disobedient.”
Deputies described Gaind, as “badly beaten and bruised over her entire body” from the beatings that they say had “been ongoing for an extended period of time,” according to the Tampa Bay Times.
Though no one initially responded to repeated knocks at the door by deputies on Saturday, officers had confirmed someone was in the home. Gaind eventually tried to open the door and “screamed for the deputy to save her and her child,” the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s office said.

The deputy reportedly had to force his way in while Devbir Kalsi attempted to force the door shut from the other side. As the deputy began to handcuff Kalsi, the man’s parents confronted the officer, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
Kalsi and Gaind had argued Friday night and he battered her “repeatedly and forcefully,” according to the arrest report. Kalsi’s parents began hitting her when she tried to defend herself, causing bruises on her face, neck and torso and also accidentally striking the infant who was being held by the mother.
Jasbir Kalsi allegedly also threatened to stab her with a kitchen knife, according to the arrest report. After taking his wife’s phone, Devbir Kalsi reportedly dragged her into another room and his parents locked her inside.
“Awful, nobody should go through that,” an unidentified neighbor told Fox 13. “It really is heartbreaking. There’s a brand new baby. But who beats their wife up and his mother and dad help him? Who does that?”
The three were being held without bond after being booked into Hillsborough County jail and could be facing deportation back to India, Fox 13 reported. Gaind and her one-year old child were moved to a safe place, the sheriff’s office said.
Devbir and Jasbir Kalsi face charges of false imprisonment, child abuse and denying access to 911. The husband could also face felony battery charge, while his father was accused of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Bhupinder Kalsi faces charges of battery domestic violence and failure to report child abuse.

“I’m both sad and scared at the same time,” neighbor Stephanie Payne told Fox 13. “I’m upset that this was all going on right across the street from me and I never knew and couldn’t do anything about it and couldn’t help her because that really breaks my heart to know that a woman and her one-year-old were being treated so poorly and were so scared.”
