Comedic actor Tyler Perry posts video defending Joel Osteen, to the tune of $250k

Tyler Perry donated $1 million to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts, carving off a huge chunk of that change for his pal Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church.

…because the mega-rich have to stick together.

Osteen just opened the doors to his massive church for victims of Hurricane Harvey after fierce backlash on social media following the historic flooding in Houston.

Perry posted a video on Facebook defending the wealthy televangelist.

“I know that there’s been some controversy about Joel Osteen and him not opening doors of the church,” he said. “Let me tell you something: Joel and Victoria are amazing people. There is no way they would lock people out of the church and not let people in for shelter.”

Having spoken to the Osteens over the phone, Perry spoke of the concerns they were facing.

“There were some safety concerns,” Perry said. “I spoke to them on the phone, and it all made perfect sense to me so before you just run and judge somebody really quick, you need to know the whole circumstances.”

Putting his money where his mouth is, Perry then explained how he as divvying up his contribution.

“This million dollars, I’m breaking it up into quarters,” he said. “I’m sending $250,000 to Lakewood to make sure that they can get all the supplies that people need. I know that they will, I know for sure that they will, because that’s the kind of person he is.”

Paying tribute to the highly discriminating gods of pop culture, Perry said he was also donating $250,000 to Beyoncé’s Houston-based pastor. Perry didn’t share the details of where the remaining $500,000 was going, saying he was still working on that.
