The moment a female crash victim stood up and unexpectedly opened fire on cops arriving to help

Stunning dashcam footage of a police confrontation that ended with police shooting and killing an armed woman has been released by North Carolina authorities.

The incident took place on July 8, when Tina Renee Medlin, 50, was confronted by officers who found her lying face down in the grass in front of a crashed vehicle.

The video shows the officers get out of their cruiser and walk towards Medlin when a bystander warns them that the woman is armed.

The officers shouted at Medlin to show her hands, but she kept one hand hidden as she got to her feet.

She then pulled the gun and started shooting at the officers.

The officers, North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper J. L. Taylor and Johnston County Deputy Taylor Davis, returned fire, hitting Medlin with two shots.

She was rushed to the hospital where she died three days later, WNCN-TV reported.

“Under the circumstances observed by Trooper Taylor and Deputy Davis, their use of deadly force was both reasonable and warranted,” Johnston County District Attorney Susan Doyle said in a press release that accompanied the video.
