The Hillary Clinton excuse tour produced its latest installment on Wednesday when excerpts from her new book came out.
The selections from her audiobook “What Happened” were aired on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” In it she discussed what she was thinking when future President Donald Trump walked behind her during their presidential debate in St. Louis, Missouri.
“It was the second presidential debate, and Donald Trump was looming behind me,” the 2016 Democrat presidential candidate said.
Clinton referenced President Trump’s “Access Hollywood” tapes, which were released days prior, and said “the world heard him brag about groping women.”
“Now we were on a small stage and no matter where I walked, he followed me closely, staring at me, making faces. It was incredibly uncomfortable he was literally breathing down my neck. My skin crawled.”
She said she had to make a decision about how to handle it.
“It was one of those moments where you wish you could hit pause and ask everyone watching, ‘Well, what would you do?'” she said.
“Do you stay calm, keep smiling and carry on as if he weren’t repeatedly invading your space? Or do you turn, look him in the eye, and say loudly and clearly, ‘Back up you creep, get away from me! I know you love to intimidate women, but you can’t intimidate me, so back up,'” the former secretary of state said.
She said she “kept my cool, aided by a lifetime of dealing with difficult men trying to throw me off.”
One could wonder if that was a reference to her own philandering husband, former President Bill Clinton, her 2008 opponent for the Democrat presidential nomination, former President Obama or a combination of other men.
“Maybe I have over learned the lesson of staying calm, biting my tongue, digging my fingernails into a clenched fist, smiling all the while determined to present a composed face to the world,” she said.
She probably over learned it in the 1990s.
