‘You don’t get to tell me to shut up on national television!’ Vicious CNN fight over Charlottesville

The conversation over the Charlottesville riots is getting nastier by the minute.

A debate on CNN between Ken Cuccinelli, the former Virginia attorney general and GOP gubernatorial candidate, and Symone Sanders, the former national press secretary for Sen. Bernie Sander, got vicious during CNN’s “New Day” on Monday.

The two were arguing over the reason white supremacists had gathered in Charlottesville.

Sanders contended that they were there for their stated reason of preventing a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee from being removed, while Cuccinelli believed the neo Nazis used it as an excuse to gather.

But the debate got ugly when Sanders continued to interrupt Cuccinelli as he attempted to make a point.

“Can I finish, Simone?” he said. “Will you just shut up for a minute?”

Sanders immediately fired back.

“Pardon me sir!” she shouted. “You don’t get to tell me to shut up on national television!” Sanders said. “I’m sorry. Under no circumstances do you get to speak to me in that matter. You should exhibit some decorum.”

“You can shut up!” she fired back.

Host Chris Cuomo reprimanded Cuccinelli, while saying nothing to Sanders about her rude behavior.

“How do I keep talking when people keep interrupting me?” he asked.

“We don’t talk to people like that on this show,” Cuomo said. “And Ken I know you. You don’t talk to people like that. And I know you don’t mean to insult somebody like that on this show.”

“Of course not,” Cuccinelli responded. “But I just can’t be walked over.”

The two continued discussing the riots but before the segment ended both Sanders and Cuomo asked for Cuccinelli to apologize for his language.

“I’ll apologize for ‘shut up’ and I’ll accept her apology for interrupting me repeatedly,” he said before Sanders again interrupted by saying “I don’t have an apology for you.”
