Republican Sen. Ted Cruz has called for the Department of Justice to investigate the “grotesque act of domestic terrorism” that happened at a White nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.
“The Nazis, the KKK, and white supremacists are repulsive and evil, and all of us have a moral obligation to speak out against the lies, bigotry, anti-Semitism, and hatred that they propagate,” he wrote ans posted on Facebook. “Having watched the horrifying video of the car deliberately crashing into a crowd of protesters, I urge the Department of Justice to immediately investigate and prosecute this grotesque act of domestic terrorism.”
While most people agree it is absolutely warranted to investigate this attack as domestic terrorism, many replied on his post by asking why there was no call to investigate the actions of Antifa at the rally who also engaged in violence.
And why has there not been a call in the past to investigate the Antifa group as domestic terrorists?
“Don’t forget (Black Lives Matter) and anitfa they had a part in this too,” Thomas Curley wrote.
“Best call out the BLM and ANTIFA that incited the violence… stop attacking one group…this is bs I watched it unfold…,” Rick Musa added. “only 40 or so alt right and 200 plus bussed in antifa BLM yeah who do u think incited the violence.”
“I saw 2 hate groups out there fighting! Not just one!!! And the left wing nuts have been causing Chaos all over the USA!!!! Including shooting Congressmen!!!” Edward Hill wrote, referring to the shooting of Rep. Steve Scalise.
“Disappointed in your post. Although the white supremacists held this rally the violence was 2 sided and BLM and Antifa need to be held equally responsible. Those hate groups have spanned out across the country destroying and burning as they go….where is the condemnation for them?” Terri Bausch Justick asked.
“BLM and Antifa are no better. They were there to cause this mayhem in the first instance and yet I hear nothing from politicians against their actions today,” Bill Lebo said.
“Ted Cruz you are right about this incident. But I must ask you why it is ok for the BLM to do as they do?” James Thomas asked. “If America is ever going to recover it is going to have to be a two way street. This nonsense of politically correctness is going to have to stop.!”
“Yes, they’re hateful, but I want to see a strong condemnation of the racist violent Black Lives Matter and Antifa, too! Tired of the demonization of whites only! Hypocrisy is out of control!” Eliz Wiggins said.
The violence on Saturday culminated with James Alex Fields Jr., 20, driving his car into a group of counter protesters.
The attack killed paralegal Heather Heyer, 32, and injured dozens of others.
