Video catches ‘lost’ man wandering down tunnel on NY subway tracks

Train operators in New York City were forced to divert their vehicles Thursday morning during rush hour after a man was spotted aimlessly ambling down the tracks.

The wanderer, who appeared lost, even took a rest in the tunnel at one point, according to the New York Daily News, laying across the tracks seemingly unfazed by the prospect of metallic doom crushing him.

One subway conductor was forced to abruptly brake after noticing the man, who has not yet been identified. After receiving notification of the human obstruction, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority rerouted several other trains in the area.

It is not clear yet if the man was merely lost or if he was trying to commit suicide.

“Power was turned off to all tracks between 34 St.-Penn Station to Christopher St. after he was observed attempting to touch the third rail and running along the tracks between stations,” MTA spokeswoman Amanda Kwan said in a statement to the New York Daily News.

Authorities eventually escorted the man off the tracks, but not until after it caused headaches for commuters.
