‘Watermelon Day’ goes horribly wrong for European paper when it uses the ‘wrong women’ to pose for pic

And now, even watermelons can be politically incorrect.

In honor of National Watermelon Day, the Times of London tweeted a photo to get in on the fun.

Unfortunately, the Times chose the wrong picture to promote the day. The image shows the hand of a white woman holding up a piece of watermelon while a black woman in the photo appears to be wearing the fruit as a dress.

In the prophetic words of one Twitter user, “This won’t end well.”

Cue the meltdown.

Of course, the #NationalWatermelonDay hashtag continued trending on Twitter with less controversial offerings.
