CNN’s Alisyn Camerota accepts ‘career advice’ from GOP Congressman: You’re getting played

Was CNN the last to get the joke?

CNN’s Alisyn Camerota was taken aback Monday by a bit of advice she was given on President Trump and his tweets.

Rep. Scott Taylor appeared on “New Day” and was asked about a WrestleMania video Trump had re-tweeted over the weekend in which he is seen body-slamming and defeating his opponent — labeled “CNN.”

The Virginia Republican told Camerota that although he wasn’t entirely a fan of Trump’s use of social media to tweak the nose of news outlets, it’s really nothing more than that — nothing to take seriously.

“I think you guys are getting played, man,” Taylor said. “I think every time he does this you guys overreact – and by you guys I mean the media, in general — and you play right into his hands.”

He added that as a result, news outlets tend to focus on Trump’s gamesmanship rather than the real issues confronting Americans and what the administration is doing to address them.

“We’re working with the White House on different initiatives out there that aren’t being covered, necessarily. I’m just giving you advice,” Taylor said.

Camerota thanked him for the advice but countered that her network had compiled statistics indicating that the president’s most recent tweets included 92 media attacks as compared to 68 substantive tweets on jobs and 29 on veterans and the military.

“Really, the vast majority of them are frivolous, as we’ve shown you with the numbers,” the CNN host said.

Taylor turned it around and wondered what percentage of CNN reports on Trump were negative.

“What I would like you to do is the next segment you have, put up the numbers of your negative coverage of the president, as well, too,” he suggested.

Camerota claimed the proposal was “crazy” and added: “We are covering the president — congressman, let me answer — how do we know when the presidential tweet is newsworthy?”

Taylor complained that CNN had covered Trump’s tweet attacking the network “over and over and over and over again,” but Camerota reminded the lawmaker that he still had not commented on it.

“I’m critical of it,” Taylor admitted. “I don’t think it makes sense.”

And it’s also not news.
