White Fla Dem Party chair regrets these 6 words: ‘They’re like children, these black lawmakers’

It’s always a special treat to see the left eat its own, but when it involves members of the Democratic Party, the occurrence is an especially savory dish.

The chairman of the Florida Democratic Party came under considerable fire over the weekend after rebuking a group of black lawmakers for being “like children.”

The comment was tagged as a racist remark and Chairman Stephen Bittel was forced to apologize — Bittel should thank God he isn’t a Republican or he’d never have gotten off that easy.

The slight took place Saturday at the state party’s annual fundraising dinner. Former Vice President Joe Biden was the featured speaker and he “noted that his appearance was keeping him from his wife on the night of their 40th wedding anniversary,” the Miami Herald reported.

Looking to move proceedings along, Bittel reportedly decided to forgo a portion of the program where Democratic leaders of the state legislation present their members.

Some lawmakers took exception to this and Senate Minority Leader Oscar Braynon, an African-American, tried to warn Bittel, according to the newspaper — the chairman would later say Braynon was acting like “a 3-year-old.”

More from The Herald on what took place after the dinner:

After the dinner, Sen. Lauren Book of Plantation, who is white, asked Bittel about the snub — prompting Bittel’s outburst blaming African-American legislators for complaining, even though [House Democratic leader Janet] Cruz, who is Hispanic, and others were also angry.

“He said, ‘They’re like children, these black lawmakers. They just don’t get it,’” Braynon said, relaying what Book told him. “ ‘I raised more money in this amount of time than they ever could.’”

Braynon was said to be “furious” over the comment, telling The Herald on Sunday it was disrespectful to the delegation.

“I wouldn’t have cared if he told us we couldn’t be on stage,” he stressed. “I was trying to protect you, tell him members were going to be upset. And he has the audacity of calling me a black child.”

“My real issue with him is his disrespect of the Legislature,” Braynon added.

You just know we haven’t heard the last of this, nor will Bittel easily shed the “racist” label hypertensive liberals are sure to assign the party chairman.
