When former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich went into the belly of the beast on Tuesday to promote his new book “Understanding Trump” and do a little back and forth with the hens on ABC’s “The View,” he likely expected a logical contradiction or two.
What he got instead was a total denial of reality.
Of course, to anyone who has ever watched “The View,” is that really a surprise?
After a wide-ranging conversation on current events regarding President Trump, host Jedediah Bila asked, “Are people frustrated with him, are they disappointed with him? What are they feeling out there?”

After stating his shock that the president has anyone at all supporting him given the “endless barrage” of negative, hostile press surrounding him from the day he first announced he was running for office, Gingrich quoted a Harvard study that found a shocking but not surprising 93 percent of media coverage of President Trump was negative.
“I think it’s amazing, if you look at the — for example, CNN’s 93 percent negative coverage according to Harvard, 93 percent negative, I think it’s a miracle that Trump has any approval,” the former speaker said.
After an “Oh, my God” from co-host Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg chimed in:
“So, do you mean, because I recall––and maybe I’m crazy––but I recall from the time the gentleman came down the escalator until the time he won, he was 24/7 on every television on every network forcing– making one of the head of the networks saying, ‘Yeah, it wasn’t good for America but it was great for us.’ It was all positive until people started asking questions. Now…”
“It wasn’t all positive!” Gingrich interrupted. “It was all noisy but it wasn’t all positive.”
Then, the unbelievable kicker from Goldberg:
“No, no. 98 percent of it was positive, Newt. I know you disagree but I don’t care. I know what I saw,” Goldberg said.
98 percent positive? Seriously?
Yeah, we’re 98 percent sure Whoopi has lost her marbles!
