‘Avengers’ star Mark Ruffalo’s petition to halt NBC’s ‘white conservative hiring spree’ backfires

Actor Mark Ruffalo is adding his name to a petition to halt the “white conservative hiring spree” at MSNBC.

The network’s addition of Greta Van Susteren to a lineup including Nicole Wallace, George Will, Hugh Hewitt and event he return of Brian WIlliams sent some liberal viewers into a scramble to call out NBC.

The petition demanding that MSNBC not “promote right-wing hate” is nearing its 200,000 signature goal and the “Avengers” actor thought to give it a boost.

“The man in charge of MSNBC has made it clear that he wants to make the network whiter and more conservative – even though the ratings of progressive shows are skyrocketing,” the petition states, adding that Andrew Lack, chairman of NBC News and MSNBC, is  trying to make them more “centrist.”

‘Repulsed’ major sponsor pulls ads from Megyn Kelly’s NBC show, but that’s only the start of fiasco

The petition demanded the network stop “hiring  extreme right TV personalities and pushing out progressive and Black and Brown voices.”

“After President Obama won in 2008, FOX News did not hire dozens of progressive, female, Black and Brown, young TV personalities in order to speak to the Obama coalition,” it stated. “So why on earth is MSNBC pushing out Black and Brown voices and filling its network with hard-line extreme conservatives?”

Ruffalo’s tweet seemed to have unintentionally backfired as Twitter users blasted the actor for “not making a lot of sense.”

Condemning the move of Joy Reid and Al Sharpton to the weekends, replacing them with “beltway hacks,” the petition organizers claimed Rachel Maddow, Chris Hayes, and Lawrence O’Donnell are leading MSNBC in a ratings win against Fox News and the network needs to wake up.

The petition even referred to President Trump as a “racist sexual predator” and warned of “sharp backlash” if the hiring trend did not stop.

While many on the left blindly sided with Ruffalo and likely signed the petition as a reflex, plenty of Twitter users blasted the actor’s tweet and the petition itself.
