Anti-Trump celebration at D.C. bar comes to screeching halt, pics of the glum scene are priceless!

It was supposed to be a sure thing — everyone was gonna get drunk on Thursday morning. Then morning turned into mourning.

A downtown Washington, D.C. watering hole turned former FBI Director James Comey’s testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee into a celebration.

The Union Pub announced yesterday that it would open at 9:30 in to morning and would be “buying a round of drinks for the house every time Trump Tweets about Comey during his testimony,” the bar’s Facebook post for the event read.

“This ‘special’ will run til Comey’s testimony is over, or 4pm, whichever is earlier,” the announcement continued.

And soon word was passed of the big event throughout all social media.

When Thursday morning came, patrons lined up for the big event.

Fun times, right? Think again.

It turned out that Trump, who’s known as the most prolific tweeter in presidential history, especially when his dander is up, went on a total Twitter blackout during the Comey testimony. A check of his feed shows his last entry was made on Wednesday.

One hour into the Comey testimony the pub was filled to capacity — but nary a flagon of spirits could be found. The scene was more reminiscent of a temperance union meeting — not a meeting of friends at the Union Pub.

And things got no better as the testimony droned on.

And indeed, while Trump was silent, his eldest son didn’t hold back.

Further up the coast the scene was much the same — silent, somber and sober. For liberals it was like watching the election night results all over again.

People wondered how this could have happened — Trump always tweets. One person suggested an answer.

Union’s management eventually took pity on its sad but loyal patrons and gave them a consolation price — a free bottle of ale.

Rep. Peter King made a poor pre-testimony prediction. The New York Republican guessed that half of D.C. would be drunk.

Another reason for the somber tone was the testimony itself. Comey is Washington elite’s homeboy and he was getting hammered — especially by Florida’s junior senator — Republican Marco Rubio.
