Snowflake mentality is spreading and the stupidity is resulting in destruction

Snowflake students on America’s college campuses need to hear this message from their administrators and professors: “You’re not a victim. You’ve got a psychological problem. Get over it.”

But first, the academics who could convey this message must get past their own ideological problems, and stop seeing prejudice behind every disparity they stumble across. College administrators must cease seeing individual students as fragile creatures, incapable of coping with the world without therapeutic nannying and assistance from college academics.

University administrators need to view such students not as malleable-minded acolytes to promote the “progressive” agenda, who need protection and “safe spaces”, but as little tyrants or speech bullies who believe their own pampered feelings—often inspired by helicopter parents— are more important than other peoples’ freedom of speech.

Safe spaces are traps that ought to be shut down. They fail on every level to promote critical thinking and rigorous debate. When campus administrators encourage safe spaces, they demonstrate a profound misunderstanding of the purpose of a university education. Students who were products of “participation-trophy childhoods” who attempt to ban disliked opinions, are sticking their heads in the sand and depriving themselves of developing the skills to take on adversaries to their beliefs, and to defend themselves. Safe spaces are crutches for a dependent person, and yours truly has never known a dependent personality who was a happy personality.

Too many college students think of themselves as consumers, as customers of the college who have “purchased” a campus environment that is supposed to meet all their expectations or they get a refund of their money. They believe “The customer is always right.” This mentality often permeates the outlook of snowflakes, who don’t understand that the world needs fewer “victims” whining about grievance-based agendas.

But here’s what’s worse: The intolerant misbeliefs of snowflakes may reflect psychological disorders, but they are moreso ideological aggressions. Most snowflakes are being taught a leftist worldview that “sees Western (texts and) culture as endemically racist and sexist,” says Heather MacDonald, a Fellow at the Manhattan Institute. “Those (so-called) ‘racist’ texts include works by Plato, Aristotle, Kant, Rousseau and Mill.” The snowflakes are encouraged to “view themselves as existentially oppressed”, and that they are at personal risk from bigotry. One result of such indoctrination is that it’s OK for contrary speech to be silenced by use of force.

Now, follow this process through to its conclusion: Snowflakes are graduating and taking their victimhood psychoses, their distorted reality, with them into the world of work. Conservatives assume wrongly that snowflakes will abandon their ignorant ideologies when they hit real-world realities. But that’s not happening. The snowflakes are bringing their attitudes to their post-college careers, and pushing their employers to adopt policies to hire and promote “based on sex and race at the expense of merit.”

Did you just feel a chill run up and down your spine? Well, don’t count on many leftist professors and college administrators to change their minds and start defending the importance of the great literary works of the Age of Enlightenment. Also, don’t expect them to challenge the spoiled brat students from a pampered generation that seems to wallow in a sea of hurt feelings. After all, it’s more fun to stage protests than do the hard work of solving problems.
