Joe Biden shared a harsh assessment of the 2016 election and Hillary Clinton as the Democratic presidential nominee.
The former Obama administration vice president slammed Clinton at the SALT hedge fund conference in Las Vegas on Thursday, claiming he would have been the better choice to lead the party to victory.
“I never thought she was the correct candidate. I thought I was the correct candidate,” he told the audience.

@yashar He would have come in 3rd…again.
— Pam Carlson (@PamCarlson3) May 19, 2017
“No man or woman should announce for the presidency unless they genuinely believe that for the that moment in the nation’s history they are the most qualified person to deal with the issues facing the country,” he said.
@yashar Salty!
— Che-nanigans (@NM_Che56) May 19, 2017
@yashar That is tacky and inappropriate. He should be building up the party not destroying it by attacking HRC. Move fwd not backwards

Biden even went on to rub more salt in the wound by adding, he never thought Clinton “was a great candidate,” according to a transcript obtained by Business Insider’s Brett LoGiurato.

Could Biden’s popularity as the sidekick to former President Obama have catapulted him to presidency? He chose not to run for the Democratic nomination as his focus was on his family and the loss of his son, Beau Biden, to brain cancer in 2015.
“You should never run for president unless you can look the public in the eye, and say ‘I give you my word, you’ll have all my energy and all my time,'” Biden said, according to The Street.
@hamiltonnolan I’ve always liked him okay but he’s too old & my opinion of him just took a nose dive for joining the “I Coulda Been A Contender” parade

@yashar Not helpful.

But the 74 year-old did not rule out a comeback, responding to whether or not he would run in 2020.
#2020? @SALTConference @JoeBiden is asked about running for President “Could I run- yes- will I- probably not but….I may very well do it” pic.twitter.com/qxbMjJry0c
— Robert Wolf (@robertwolf32) May 19, 2017
“Could I? Yes. Would I? Probably not,” Biden said at Thursday’s conference.
Says “I may very well” decide to run for president next election but has not made up his mind.
— Hamilton Nolan (@hamiltonnolan) May 19, 2017
2020 here he comes! https://t.co/agccugjtua
— Doug Powers (@ThePowersThatBe) May 19, 2017
“My family has to get back together,” he said. “If I get those things done, and I’m healthy and viable, and it looks like I’m the best man to do it, I may very well do it, but my family comes first.”
Biden also announced that he would be donating the $200,000 speaking fee he received from the event to charity.
Despite his claims and presidential aspirations, Biden’s popularity make have taken a few hits after his jab at Clinton. Got to give it to him though for sheer lack of humility.

@yashar 1) the point is absolutely correct; 2) it’s pretty unhelpful
— Bob Rosenberg (@BRosenberg1) May 19, 2017
@BRosenberg1 @yashar It is not absolutely correct. Biden is only loved as the sidekick. Would be a lot different for him at the top of the ticket.
— Donna Marie (@Oooooo_Donna) May 19, 2017
@yashar Love Joe Biden but he’s only VP material, not a leader in his own right. He had 25 yrs to try. #FootInMouthSyndrome #2ndBest #ObamaClinger
— Hermione Resists (@Eat_Shop_Travel) May 19, 2017
@yashar .But if @JoeBiden expects the support of millions and millions of us HRC supporters he might consider shutting up.
— Sasha Stone (@AwardsDaily) May 19, 2017
@yashar Hard pass. Enjoy running in 2020 without HRC’s voters
— ParisConstantinople (@smartflexin) May 19, 2017
@yashar Malarkey, the man who lost to both Hillary and Obama in 2008. Biden would not have gotten my vote!
— ivey (@evelezce) May 19, 2017
@yashar This is so irritating. Rehashing the past & making impossible to prove boasts is pointless. Also, Dems tearing each other down is idiotic.
— Frustrated Idealist (@FrustratedIdea1) May 19, 2017
@AnnBrenoff @yashar He did run once and we all realized he was a walking gaffe. We love Grandpa Joe. We don’t love President Joe.
— Adam Gerard (@voteprime) May 19, 2017
@yashar Because he was so successful when he ran before. Easy to snipe from the sidelines.
— SayGoodnightGracie (@BurnsandAllen2) May 19, 2017
@yashar @samsteinhp Wow talk about not moving on. She continues be the most popular DEM. I love ya @JoeBiden but throwing shade on @HillaryClinton ain’t cool.
— JeffGWillResist (@sbbytor) May 19, 2017
@morelaugh @yashar @JoeBiden DONT. DO. PETTY. BS.
