President Trump reportedly ‘furious’ over buzz Kimberly Guilfoyle could replace Spicer as WH spox

Fox News host Kimberly Guilfoyle walked back comments that reportedly infuriated President Trump about her possibly replacing Sean Spicer as the White House press secretary.

The president was “furious” at the rumors that the Fox News personality was making a bid for Spicer’s job, the Washington Examiner reported.

“Trump gets angry every time he sees those stories. He believes that she is using him to better her own situation,” a source said. “He’s furious.”

But a senior White House aide told DailyMail.com on Wednesday that the idea of Guilfoyle as press secretary is “a total non-starter. Not happening.”

The 48-year-old co-host of “The Five” appeared to tell the press she was talking to Trump’s aides about the White House spokesperson job.

“Sean Spicer is a very nice man and a patriot. He’s dedicated himself to this public service,” she told the San Jose Mercury News. “I wish him the best, and I know he puts a lot of effort into it.”

Guilfoyle’s name circulated as a possible press secretary back in December, just before Trump announced Spicer for the position. But, it seemed from her interview with the Mercury News, Guilfoyle would have happily accepted the spot.

“I’m a patriot, and it would be an honor to serve the country,” Guilfoyle said. “I think it’d be a fascinating job. It’s a challenging job, and you need someone really determined and focused, a great communicator in there with deep knowledge to be able to handle that position.”

But Guilfoyle, a former prosecutor who was married to former San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, issued a statement Tuesday clearing up any rumors and, in turn, cooling off Trump.

“As I stated in the interview, I really love what I do and my job co-hosting ‘The Five’ is tough to beat,” she said, through a spokesperson.

Fox News responded with a statement of their own, clarifying that the network host is under a long-term contract.

“Kimberly is a valued member of the FOX News primetime lineup, and is under a long term contract with the network,” a spokesperson for the network said.
