A Palestinian hunger strike leader is secretly snacking while he publicly urges his fellow Muslim prisoners to starve.
Video released by Israel’s Prison Service reportedly shows convicted terrorist Marwan Barghouti eating a candy bar on May 5 and cookies on April 27 in his jail cell.
On April 17, Barghouti urged fellow Palestinian jailbirds to launch a hunger strike to demand better prison conditions. Barghouti is serving five life sentences for allegedly directing three separate terrorist attacks.

The Israel Prison Service didn’t say how Barghouti got the food, but insiders admit they set him up to see if he was actually sticking to his hunger strike. The video footage shows Barghouti sneaking into the bathroom of his jail cell to snack on food hidden in napkins. Oops.
Qadoura Fares, who heads the advocacy group for Palestinian prisoners, slammed the video as fake. “This is a fabrication,” Fares said (via Haaretz). “This is psychological warfare that we expected Israel to wage against the strike.”
Palestinian felons launched the hunger strike last month to demand better prison conditions, including more family visits, allowing photos to be taken during family visits, and abolishing solitary confinement.
Israeli leaders say the hunger strike is nothing more than a PR stunt to gain public sympathy. “This hunger strike was never about the conditions of the convicted terrorists, which meet international standards,” Israeli Minister of Public Security Gilad Erdan said. “Barghouti is a murderer and hypocrite who urged his fellow prisoners to strike and suffer while he ate behind their backs.”
In Palestine, terrorists and their families are paid to carry out terrorist attacks. Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said if Palestinians are serious about wanting peace, they need to stop incentivizing terrorism.

“Hey, you want peace? Prove it,” Netanyahu said. “Stop rewarding terrorism. Stop paying terrorists. It could be more than a billion dollars that is given to terrorists. I’m not talking about Hamas. I’m talking about the mainline Palestinian Authority headed by the president.”
