Former President Barack Obama urged lawmakers to oppose “TrumpCare” while accepting the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage award Sunday night in Boston.
Obama—who gets handed an award by leftists every time he turns around—encouraged lawmakers to “show courage” by opposing President Trump’s efforts to repeal and replace Obamacare.
“I hope they understand that courage means not simply doing what is politically expedient, but doing what they believe deep in their hearts is right,” Obama said in his speech (video below).
Obama continued: “I’ve been thinking on this notion on political courage, in particular about some of the men and women who were elected to Congress the year I was elected to the White House. These men and women did the right thing, they did the hard thing [when they voted for Obamacare]. Theirs was a profile in courage. Because of that vote, 20 million people got health insurance who didn’t have it. And most of those lawmakers lost their seats.”
Obama added: “I hope that current members of Congress recognize that it takes little courage to aid those who are already powerful. But it takes great courage to champion the vulnerable, the sick and the infirm with no access to the corridors of power.”
To underscore that political cronyism continues long after a president leaves office, Obama was presented with a trophy by Caroline Kennedy, whose father is the inspiration for the Profile in Courage Award. Obama appointed Caroline the ambassador to Japan in 2013.
The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation cited Obama’s dubious “accomplishments” in office for the award, including Obamacare, the Iran nuclear deal, and the restoration of U.S. relations with communist Cuba.
The Profile in Courage award echoes the hollowness of the Nobel Peace Prize Obama received in 2009, just months after he took office. Barack Obama is the only world leader to have received a Nobel Peace Prize despite being at war every day in office and bombing seven countries.
Here are some reminders of Obama’s “courageous achievements” as president:
