Restaurant apologizes after employees sang ‘F**k The Police’ song while officers ate

A North Carolina restaurant has apologized after its employees sang an anti-police rap to officers who were eating in the establishment.

The Raleigh Police Protective Association posted a note to its Facebook page sarcastically thanking Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q in Garner after they said staff, including the manager, sang N.W.A.’s “F**k The Police.”

“THANK YOU Smithfield’s Chicken & Barbecue Jones Sausage location for the class and professionalism as you sang “F- the police” as my brothers at Raleigh Police Department attempted to eat at your restaurant,” Matthew Cooper, the union’s president, wrote on Facebook Friday. “The manager sang along as well. Do you really feel that was appropriate?”

The post has since been removed after the location’s owner issued a strong statement of support for the police and vowed to investigate the incident and “terminate anyone employed that doesn’t share our RESPECT of ALL law enforcement.”

“We have had a long-standing relationship with Raleigh Police Department,” restaurant co-owner David Harris wrote. “We respect law enforcement, we have called upon them in the past for assistance, we take utmost seriousness of this issue.”

The police union thanked him for his “quick and heartfelt response to this matter” and added that it “truly believe(s) that the actions of these employees do not share (his) values.”

The Protective Association has since removed both postings and accepted the owner’s apology after a barrage of people threatened to boycott the restaurant.

The officers did not want to hurt the business and issued the following statement on why the Association removed the original post.

We really appreciate the support we have received from the incident involving Smithfield’s Chicken and BBQ. We are confident that a positive resolution will occur as a result from our effort. Currently, the conversation between some people on the previous posts have deviated from our original mission which was to raise awareness to that particular situation and to show what police officers have to face now on a regular basis. For that reason, we decided to delete the original post.

We believe that all people should be treated with dignity and respect. Our officers do their best to complete this mission every day.

We are comforted that the community at large has our back. We greatly value your continued loyalty and support in the future.

Thanks again and best wishes.
