‘Despicable!’ Hasan Minhaj really stepped in it when he tried to mock Rick Perry at Correspondents’ Dinner

Daily Show comedian Hasan Minhaj took aim at a lot of targets at Saturday night’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner, including and especially the conspicuously absent President Trump, but it was Minhaj’s jab at the also-absent Energy Secretary Rick Perry that has landed the Daily Show comedian in some hot water.

“Hey, has anyone see Rick Perry since he became energy secretary?” Minhaj quipped. “I have a feeling he’s sitting in a room full of plutonium waiting to become Spider-Man. That’s just my hunch.”

Well, not exactly…

As Twitchy put it so adeptly, “Perry’s father had just died so he obviously had more important things on his mind than the nerd prom.”

Good question!

While Minhaj was making tasteless jokes at his expense, Perry was posting great memories with his father on Twitter:

Oh, and it looks like the joke failed on two levels, since Minhaj didn’t even get it right about Spider Man:
