Joe Scarborough, co-host of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” took to social media Wednesday night to offer an apology of sorts to co-host Mika Brzezinski.
The plea for forgiveness coming after Scarborough snapped at Brzezinski earlier in the day on air while discussing first daughter Ivanka Trump’s role in the White House and whether it amounts to nepotism — she took exception when Scarborough brought up Bobby Kennedy.
“You don’t have to be so snotty,” he said at the time. “I was about to say, you didn’t let me get it out. You don’t have to be so rude.”
“The fact of the matter is that they are not Bobby Kennedy as I was about to say but you wanted to get your cheap shot in so you got your cheap shot in,” he added. “No I am not saying Jared and Ivanka are Bobby Kennedy.”
But it seems the little dust up between the two, who have long been rumored to be romantically involved, lingered on because Scarborough commented later on social media:
Me: I'm sorry

Don't sweat it.~Scene~

When it was pointed out that the apology was related to what took place on the show earlier in the day, Scarborough responded with a bruising attempt at humor:
This morning?? I was talking about 5 minutes ago on the rugby field. https://t.co/2bqw1CvCuD

There’s nothing to suggest it was prompted by Scarborough’s apology, but Brzezinski posted a mysterious tweet a few hours earlier:
Everybody please listen

And while Jerry Seinfeld swears that make up sex is the best feature of a relationship, there’s no telling if this was a factor in Scarborough and Brzezinski not being present on Thursday’s show.
“Joe and Mika have the morning off,” said Willie Geist, who was filling in. Later, an MSNBC spokesperson told Mediaite that the two were on a “planned time off” and will be back to work on Tuesday.
Even if he was forgiven by Brzezinki, a quick scan of Scarborough’s Twitter feed suggests that his co-host gets more love than he does… and that the apology, such as it was, came up short.
Here’s a sampling of responses from Twitter:
@JoeNBC I hope you will also apologize to the MJ morning audience. Did you hear me give you an earful this morning all the way from Spokane, WA?

@JoeNBC Appropriate move Joe. Suggestion: Don’t allow yourself to become the most obnoxious guy on cable now that O’Reilly’s gone.

@JoeNBC You were just bizarre Joe. Your rant about Mika being rude was rude and abusive beyond belief. Your apology should include video.

@JoeNBC You really were wayyyy out of line this morning. Much more than usual. Not just over talking. Down right abusive. Glad u said sorry.

@JoeNBC How about apologizing on air in the A.M. To Mika and the audience. That would be nice.
— Hydi Dixon (@hydigolf) April 27, 2017
@JoeNBC It was abusive. I had to turn it off. No excuse for that behavior.

@JoeNBC You brag, bloviate, interrupt, talk over your guests, but let Mika drop a gem & you become a manchild. You owe guests & views apology.

@JoeNBC You got some anger issues Joe. Not a good look and I hope you sort it out.

@JoeNBC This is how a child or Trump might apologize. Not a well educated lawyer and respected congressman. Man up. Do it right. Gheese Joe!
