Tucker relentless with Dem Congressman on Iran Deal: You’re cool if the Trump admin lies to you in a similar way?

It was a case of blind loyalty to an administration that lied to him.

A congressman continued to support the Iran nuke deal, even though officials from former President Barack Obama’s administration withheld some of the more unsavory conditions of the agreement from members of Congress.

Politico, hardly a conservative news outlet, reported Monday that the agreement, which purported to halt Iran’s development of nuclear weapons, included a secret provision requiring the release of prisoners who had smuggled military technology into Iran and cancelled arrest warrants against 14 Iranian fugitives.

Although many of Rep. Eric Swalwell‘s Democratic colleagues condemned the deal from the start, the California Democrat told Fox News host Tucker Carlson that he continues to support it.

He admitted that he “didn’t know about this part of the deal,” but nonetheless supports it, because “being farther away from a nuclear Iran is a good thing,”

“This is not a small detail,” a dumbstruck Carlson said of the secret provisions. Reading from the Politico article, Carlson said that the individuals who benefited from the provision “were threats to U.S. national security, according to the Obama administration’s own Justice Department.”

Swalwell countered that without the deal, the Trump administration would be facing the threat of two rogue nuclear nations — North Korea and Iran.

“Secretary of State Tillerson last week said to Congress that Iran is in compliance,” the Congressman argued, while ignoring that he also said the deal doesn’t address Tehran’s support of terrorism.

Carlson tried to yank Swalwell back to reality.

“Why do you think the Obama people lied to you about this?” he asked. “They didn’t tell you.”

Swalwell responded by falling back on Obama administration talking points.

“I don’t agree with every part of the deal,” he said. “I’m telling you right now we’re much safer because they don’t have a nuclear weapon.”

“Would it be cool for the Trump administration to lie to you in a similar way?” the Fox News host wanted to know.

Swalwell denied that lawmakers were lied to about the deal.

“Of course they did,” Carlson fired back. “They were abetting terrorism,” he said of the Obama administration officials.

The congressman continued to claim he wasn’t lied to.

Folks on Twitter saw it as one more example of corruption within the Obama administration.

While Tillerson addressed Congress on the Iran nuke deal, Defense Secretary James Mattis also condemned Iran.

“Everywhere you look, if there is trouble in the region, you find Iran,” Mattis said while visiting Saudi Arabia. “So, right now, what we are seeing is the nations in the region and others elsewhere trying to checkmate Iran and the amount of disruption, the amount of instability they can cause.”
