23-year-old Juan Manuel Montes, a Mexican national who has lived in the United States since he was 9, became the first DREAMer to be deported under the Trump administration, according to a USA Today feature of his case.

Buried in the otherwise sympathetic profile of Montes is the fact that he has been convicted of several minor offenses, including shoplifting, during his time in the United States. Even USA Today admits that this particular DREAMer was “never a poster child for the DACA program. He wasn’t his high school’s valedictorian or a prominent advocate for fellow DREAMers.”

Iowa Representative Steve King raised a literal pint to the likelihood that this might represent a broader pattern of illegal immigration enforcement which was virtually nonexistent under the previous administration. “Border Patrol, this one’s for you,” King tweeted.

So naturally, libs who can’t envision letting in enough illegal immigrants to this country were triggered by King’s tweet.

@SteveKingIA you are on the wrong side of history. You will be remembered for that

But King also got some support from those with some common sense, including a link to a Daily Caller article that set the record straight on the USA Today piece.

@SteveKingIA Article is fake news. He has a conviction for shoplifting, which is a crime of moral turpitude- enough to get a green card holder deported
— BrooklynEquities (@BrklynEquities) April 18, 2017
@SteveKingIA He had 4 convictions – 1 for shoplifting and 3 for driving w/o a license as early as 3 mos ago. Criminal deportation. #Adios #MAGA

@SteveKingIA @NetworksManager I will drink to that! #MAGA
