Trump recalls moments he told Chinese President of airstrike over ‘the most beautiful piece of chocolate cake’

In case you were wondering, President Donald Trump told Chinese President Xi Jinping all about the airstrikes in Syria over dessert Thursday night.

Trump approved the missile strike against a Syrian air base  while in the midst of a prolonged meeting with Xi Jinping at his Palm Beach, Florida, Mar-a-Lago estate, serving as the southern White House.

Trump was asked about the timing of the attack during his first interview with the Fox Business Network, which aired Wednesday on “Maria in the Morning.”

The president told host Maria Bartiromo that he and Xi had just finished dinner when he told the Chinese president of what had just happened in the Middle East.

“We’re now having dessert, and we had the most beautiful piece of chocolate cake that you’ve ever seen,” Trump told Bartiromo. “And President Xi was enjoying it.”

Trump said that at about that time he had received a message “from the generals.”

“That the ships are locked and loaded, what do you do? And we made a determination to do it, so the missiles were on the way,” the president explained.

“And I said, Mr. President, let me explain something to you. This is during dessert. We’ve just fired 59 missiles, all of which hit by the way, unbelievable from, you know, hundreds of miles away, all of which hit,” Trump recalled.

He then expressed pride in U.S. military technological advances.

“Our technology, our equipment, is better than anybody by a factor of five. What we have in terms of technology, nobody can even come close to competing,” the president said.

“So what happens is I said, ‘We’ve just launched 59 missiles … heading to Iraq,” Trump said, obviously meaning Syria, and Bartiromo corrected him on that point.

“Yes, heading toward Syria, and I want you to know that,” Trump said, recalling what he had told Xi.

Trump told Bartiromo that after he’d delivered the news, Xi paused for 10 seconds.

“And then he asked the interpreter to please say it again. I didn’t think that was a good sign,” Trump said.

“And he said to me, ‘Anybody that uses gases … anybody that was so brutal and uses gases to do that to young children and babies, it’s OK,’” Trump recalled Xi saying. “He was OK with it.”
