‘Trump-less’ WH Correspondents’ Dinner tags headlining comedian, and it has ‘political’ written all over it

And you thought these shindigs weren’t political?

A Muslim comedian who has been very critical of President Donald Trump has been tagged as the headliner at this year’s White House Correspondent’s Dinner, The Daily Caller reported.

You know, the dinner that Trump has already said he will not attend.

Hasan Minhaj, the senior correspondent for Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show,” will host the event that will certainly be little more than a night of unadulterated Trump-bashing.

Included in his repertoire of Trump jokes is this little gem: “Donald Trump is white ISIS. ‘Whisis’.”

WHCA President Jeff Mason, the White House correspondent for Reuters, appeared Tuesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” and declared, “It’s a different dinner.”

“President Trump has said that he will not be coming,” he said. “But we will still be celebrating the first amendment and the importance of a free press and Hasan brings all of that. He brings comedy chops, but he also brings heart and I think that we are going to see that at this dinner.”

And to be sure, based on Mason’s description of what to expect from Hasan, there will be plenty of lecturing from omnipotent moral busybodies.

“He is going to make some jokes no doubt about the press and probably about the President,” Mason said. “But he is also going to bring the message that we hope to get across that night, and that is that the first amendment is critical and the work of the White House press corps and press around the world is critical.”
