At 2.53 pm a truck entered Drottnings Street and ploughed into pedestrians outside the busy shopping district in the centre of the Swedish capital. At least three people are reported dead and several in critical condition according to Stockholm police.
The truck was rammed into a crowd just yards from the scene of a 2010 suicide bombing that left the perpetrator dead in the middle of the Christmas shopping rush.
All train traffic to Stockholm has been cancelled and the Swedish reaction force has been sent in to clear Stockholm central station
No one is currently being allowed to leave the Swedish parliament (Riksdag) building, which lies south of the area where the incident occurred on Drottninggatan and the police is urging people to “stay in place” in the old part of the city as the situation is not under control.
The incident was in Drottninggatan, a street in a busy shopping district in the centre of the Swedish capital on Friday afternoon.
The Swedish Prime Minister, Stefan Lofven, said “Sweden has been attacked and everything indicates the crash is “a terror attack” as police warned people to avoid the city centre.
President Trump recently came under fire for declaring Sweden a hotbed of terrorism due to the poorly vetted Muslim migrant influx. One, Trump skeptic went to Sweden to find out for himself, and was shocked when he said he needed a police escort to escape.
