Just when you think they can’t go lower, CNN’s Cuomo ‘resets the bar’ in defense of Susan Rice

CNN’s Chris Cuomo joined his network and colleagues in sticking his head in the sand over the “fake scandal” surrounding Susan Rice.

Cuomo dismissed the controversy around the former national security adviser, claiming the reports that Rice requested to unmask the identities of President Trump’s transition team members named in classified documents are being “peddled by right-wing media.”

“So President Trump wants you to believe that he is the victim of a ‘crooked scheme,’ ” Cuomo began the segment on CNN’s “New Day” Tuesday.

“Those are his words. And here are our words: There is no evidence of any wrongdoing,” he continued. “And, in fact, if anything the NSA asking for identities was a reflection of exactly how much traffic there was involving Trump people and foreign players,”

“The White House blasting the press for not reporting on another fake scandal being peddled by right-wing media,” he said.

Cuomo’s words echoed those of CNN host Don Lemon and the network’s national security correspondent, Jim Sciutto, on Monday. Lemon slammed the Trump administration and announced CNN would not “aid and abet” anyone trying to “misinform” viewers with the Rice story, which he called a “diversion.”

Sciutto claimed the story was “largely ginned up, partly as a distraction from this larger investigation.”

CNN’s sudden journalistic grandstanding came in spite of  reports by multiple media outlets that the former Obama aide had asked to know the names in the intelligence briefings and had ordered “detailed spreadsheets” to be made of legal phone calls involving Trump and his aides during the election campaign.

Cuomo and his CNN team seem to really want viewers to ignore the story as they barrel ahead in their attack of all things-Trump, even if it defies national security.

Twitter users, many of them journalists, condemned Cuomo and his network.
