Democrats in California angered by the Trump administration’s crack down on sanctuary cities are vowing to fight back.
A warning from Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Monday against lawless mayors and governors putting Americans at risk nationwide sparked outrage and backlash from Democratic lawmakers in The Golden State.
U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris blasted Sessions for “lecturing” California’s cities in a tweet on Monday.
I’ll remind you that as Jeff Sessions lectures our cities about the law, he is facing calls for resignation for lying to Congress.

California’s Senate President, Kevin de Leon, reacted in tweets and retweets following Seassions’ press briefing Monday.
#JeffSessions and @WhiteHouse continue #AlternativeFacts streak. Truth is sanctuary cities are less dangerous than nonsanctuary cities.

The Attorney General and President only want to cause fear and stoke racial resentment. Disturbing and we must call it what it is.
— Kevin de Leόn (@kdeleon) March 27, 2017
De Leon called the administration’s push to force cities to comply with federal law a “gun-to-the-head method” to make them participate in “Trump’s inhumane and counterproductive mass-deportation.”

Appointed by Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Cantil-Sakauye said immigration enforcement raids would have a chilling effect on immigrants reporting crimes, bearing witness in court and cooperating with law enforcement, the Sacramento Bee reported.
Mayor Ed Lee of San Fransisco, where 32-year-old Kate Steinle was killed by an illegal alien in 2015, declared that sanctuary cities are “safer, more productive, healthier places to live.”

“We refuse to let divisive national policies undermine our core values,” the mayor stated on the website, “and our commitment to being a Sanctuary City — one that protects the rights of all its citizens.”
And by “all citizens,” the mayor apparently was referring to those who are not actually citizens as well.
“San Francisco is now spending more per capita on immigrant legal services than any other city,” he proudly shared, explaining that “an additional $1.5 million in local funds” was announced to deal with immigrants’ legal issues and nearly $14 million was pledged for immigration-related services.
On the other side of the country, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio echoed the defiance of the West coast liberals, challenging the Trump administration, “If they want a fight, we’ll see them in court.”
We won’t back down from protecting New Yorkers from terror – or from an overzealous administration fixated on xenophobia and division. https://t.co/HITtsr52xm

The Trump Administration is pushing an unrealistic and mean spirited executive order. If they want a fight, we’ll see them in court.
