Election day all over again: Michael Moore is duped into believing imminent Trump takedown

Occasional filmmaker Michael Moore got duped into believing that MSNBC was about to report the scoop of the century — President Donald Trump’s federal tax returns.

Moore sounded like a kid in a candy store — more excited than MSNBC host Rachel Maddow herself — when he tweeted what he thought was an earthshaking news report, and he asked his followers to be sure to tune in.

Earlier that evening Maddow tweeted what she said would be the breaking news story of Trump’s federal returns — “really.”

But Maddow’s “scoop” turned out to be a big nothing-burger — a big, fat lead balloon. The return was missing most of its pages, it was more than a decade old and as it turned out, it could very well have been published by the president himself — the White House even released the forms before MSNBC could.

An obvious downcast Moore tweeted:

Others agreed that it was all sizzle — but no steak.

There’s an old adage that if something sounds too good to be true, then it probably isn’t true.

Moore should have taken it to heart.
