The son of a missing former FBI agent is hopeful that President Trump can do what two presidents before him failed to do: bring his father home.
Trump is “well-suited” to bring his missing father home, Daniel Levinson told Fox News.
Robert Levinson disappeared 10 years ago in Iran after embarking on a CIA mission in the country’s Kish Island. Iran’s leaders have denied knowing anything about what happened to the 68 year-old since he vanished in 2007.
Levinson’s family accused both Bush and Obama administrations of abandoning him after failing to find him.
The younger Levinson questioned where the outrage is for the amount of time it has taken to find his father, adding that former President Obama “squandered” the opportunity when the Iran Nuclear Deal was being negotiated.
White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer indicated on Thursday that Levinson’s safe return home is a top priority for the Trump administration which “remains unwaveringly committed” to that cause.
Levinson’s son believes Trump is the man to put an end to the decade-long mystery because of his campaign promise, his hard-line stance against Iran and his abilities as a “deal-maker.”
“He’s a deal-maker and this is going to require a deal,” he said. “This is an enormous opportunity for President Trump to do what two previous U.S. presidents haven’t done.”
The FBI also repeated its commitment to finding Levinson who was a 20 year veteran of the agency and is now the longest-held American hostage in history.
“Ten years is an inhumane amount of time to ask a family to wait for word of their loved one,” FBI Director James Comey said in a statement. “Our ability to reunite Bob with his family is dependent on this shared commitment and we continue to call on the Iranian government to provide assistance.”
