Krauthammer explains why Rand Paul, others should ‘fall on their swords’ on Obamacare replacement

Turns out, there’s more going on in the country than whether or not the Trump campaign collaborated with the Russians or whether former President Obama was eavesdropping in the whole time.

Repealing and replacing Obamacare is one such issue, and House Republicans took a giant step forward on Monday with the release of their plan, called the American Health Care Act.

The fact is, with something as monumental and central to the entire Republican / Trump platform as this, compromises will be in order. Hard-liners on all sides will need to, as Charles Krauthammer told Special Report with Bret Baier, “fall on their swords” to accomplish a greater goal.

Specifically addressing key conservative lawmakers such as Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), who has called the bill “ObamaCare Lite” and “Democrat ideas dressed up in Republican clothing,” Krauthammer said “In the end … the conservatives are going to have to fall on their swords, because there is no way they can… eliminate the entitlements. I think it would destroy the presidency.”

Citing how difficult it is to roll back an entitlement once it’s been codified, Krauthammer lamented the fact that President Obama did just that with health care, and it’s going to be next to impossible to change that.

In fact, if conservative hard-liners manage to sink the replacement bill, it could be “disastrous” for conservatives and for the Trump presidency, Krauthammer said.
