Former president Barack Obama left behind “land mines” to sabotage President Trump.
That’s what Fox News’ Charles Krauthammer — a longtime Trump critic — concluded while discussing the nonstop press leaks by Obama holdovers in the White House and the intelligence community.
Krauthammer pointed to the unredacted leaked conversations of fired national security advisor Michael Flynn with a Russian ambassador as evidence that Obama tried to undermine Trump.
“I don’t think there’s any question the former president was intent on leaving behind landmines,” Krauthammer said. “Normally, when the NSA is listening in on a foreigner, they take great care to redact any American involved. The NSA’s not supposed to spy on Americans. Here, it was the reverse. There was an obvious attempt to make sure this was spread as widely as possible, that it would become a problem for the Trump administration.”
Fox News anchor Bret Baier noted that Obama tried to narrow the scope of the National Security Agency’s spying on private citizens after the Edward Snowden debacle.
But shortly before leaving office, Obama expanded the NSA’s power to share intercepted personal communications with 16 other intelligence agencies, apparently to undermine Trump with embarrassing press leaks.
President Trump revealed Saturday that Obama had wiretapped the Trump Tower in the months before his election.
“Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!” Trump tweeted. “How low has President Obama gone to tap my phones during the very sacred election process. This is Nixon/Watergate.”
Charles Krauthammer characterized Obama’s expanded authorization on spying and press leaks as high-tech sour grapes. “What this is is the revenge of the losers,” he said.
“These are people who wanted to make trouble for an administration of a guy who they thought wasn’t going to win and shouldn’t have won. We’re going to get to the bottom of it because there are going to be a lot of investigations.”
Meanwhile, multiple reports claim Obama is launching a “shadow government” to oust President Trump. Sources told the Daily Mail that Obama’s home will serve as the command center to mastermind a massive underground campaign to sabotage Trump.
“You’re going to see me early next year, and we’re going to be in a position where we can start cooking up all kinds of great stuff,” Obama promised after Trump was elected. “I’m still fired up and ready to go.”
