Conservatives chill the champagne as Dem base gets set to elect Ellison to head DNC

With Democratic National Committee members set to elect a new leader Saturday, Fox News’ Eric Bolling got a chuckle out of what the contenders opted to focus on during a debate this week.

“Instead of focusing on how to keep their fractured party together, they’re focused on the notion that there going to be able to impeach President Trump,” he said, laughing at the extreme hyperbole being tossed around.

Sen. Ted Cruz said he would commend the party “for truth in advertising” if the “bat-crap crazy” base chooses hard-left Minnesota Congressman Keith Ellison.

In an interview with radio host Mark Levin at CPAC 2017, the Texas lawmaker pointed to Ellison’s background with racist Louis Farrakhan and urged the conservative crowd to “get behind” Ellison.

“Listen, I will commend the Democrats for one thing,” he told the room. “If they name Keith Ellison as the head of the DNC, then I’ll commend them for truth in advertising.”

Much like the contentious Democratic presidential primary, the election for a new party leader breaks down to Team Hillary v. Team Bernie.

More from The Hill:

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and many of his allies are backing Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), a progressive firebrand and favorite of the left.

Former Vice President Joe Biden and other key figures from the Obama administration back former Labor Secretary Tom Perez, who supported Hillary Clinton in the primaries.

Democrats have done their best to quash the notion that the DNC chair race is a proxy war between these competing wings of the party.

One thing seems clear, Ellison’s supporters are the loudest… which is really not all that surprising:
