Hundreds of protesters gathered Wednesday night outside the Anaheim, California home of an off-duty cop who pulled and fired a handgun during a scuffle he had with a 13-year-old after a group of young teens had walked across his lawn.

The demonstration in front of the Los Angeles police officer’s home resulted in 24 arrests — including 10 men, eight women and six juveniles, according to NBC News.
Anaheim police spokesman Sgt. Daron Wyatt said in a statement early Thursday that the arrests were the result of numerous reports of vandalism, including windows being broken.

The shooting incident happened the day before and was captured on video, which was later posted to YouTube. No one was injured from the discharged firearm.
The unidentified officer was placed on administrative leave following the incident pending an investigation. The 13-yeat-old was arrested for criminal threats and battery. A second teen, age 15, was arrested for assault and battery.
“The case will be presented to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office when it is completed. The names of the involved parties are not being released at this time,” the statement said.
The video depicts the officer holding the teen by the front of his shirt, as the teen’s companions scuffle and jostle the off-duty cop.
The confrontation “began over ongoing issues with juveniles walking across the officer’s property,” according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
NBC News reported:
There were no injuries from the gunshot but the teenager’s grandmother told NBC News the boy had suffered “a lot of bruises.”
Jennifer Dorscht, 45, said the boy had been standing up for a 13-year-old girl who had originally been in an altercation with the officer, and accused the officer of using profanity against the kids.
“It’s just a terrible situation. It could’ve been handled completely in a different manner. He’s a good kid,” Borscht told reporters. “He does all the right things, he has a good heart. I think that’s why he stuck up for this girl.”
Anaheim Police were out in full force during Wednesday night’s protest.

Some of the protesters appeared to adopt the long debunked “hands up, don’t shoot” narrative of the Ferguson, Missouri Michael Brown shooting.
