Why are you so hot, Chris? Wallace ‘goes bananas’ on Priebus, ‘You don’t get to tell us what to do’

Chris Wallace held nothing back as he hammered White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus over President Donald Trump’s war with the mainstream media.

Priebus gave examples of what he called fake news, such as a story peddled by the New York Times a week ago that claimed the Trump campaign had “constant contact” with Russian spies.

“I can assure you, and I’ve been to say this, that the top levels of the intelligence community have assured me that that that story is not only inaccurate, but it’s grossly overstated and it’s wrong and there’s nothing to it,” Priebus said. “If I can say that to the American people, then what does it say about the story?”

But that didn’t prevent Wallace from having a hissy fit.

As Priebus was listing more examples a flustered Wallace interrupted him.

“Reince, here is the problem, I don’t have any problem with you complaining about an individual story,” Wallace shot back. “We sometimes get it wrong, you guys sometimes get it wrong. I don’t have any problem with you complaining about bias. But you went a lot further than that, or the president went a lot further than that. He said that the fake media, not certain stories, the fake media are an enemy to the country. We don’t have a state-run media in this country, that’s what they have in dictatorships.”

“OK, listen, Chris. It’s not just two stories,” Priebus said. “It’s followed up by 24 hours a day, seven days a week of other cable stations, not necessarily Fox, that all day long on every chyron, every seven minutes are talking about Russian spies. Talking about the intelligence community. Talking about how me and Steve Bannon don’t like each other, what’s Kellyanne (Conway) doing? All this just total garbage.”

A chyron is the news crawl graphic at the bottom of the majority of cable news shows.

Wallace refused to allow Priebus to continue his point uninterrupted and talked over him in a fiery back and forth.

“You don’t get to tell us what to do any more than Barack Obama did,” the Fox News host said. “Barack Obama whined about Fox News all the time, but I gotta say, he never said we were an enemy of the people.”

“I don’t know why you are so hot here,” Priebus fired back. “You are going bananas … it’s ridiculous.”

Social media hammered Wallace for his aggressive stance.
