White House strategist Steve Bannon seems to hate the mainstream press almost as much as it hates him.
Last month, Bannon told the New York Times, “The media should be embarrassed and humiliated and keep its mouth shut and just listen for a while. I want you to quote this. The media here is the opposition party. They don’t understand this country. They still do not understand why Donald Trump is the president of the United States.”
Granted, much ado was made of the “keep its mouth shut” portion without bothering to consider the context or the entire quote, particularly by CNN’s Jake Tapper, but the part that really gets them in a tizzy is the “opposition party” charge… because it’s true.
And Bannon isn’t afraid to say it to their faces either. In fact, according to several reports, he just did!

In a new interview with CNN, the White House strategist doubled down by saying, “The opposition party is completely focused on trying to destroy Trump and his administration. It’s not going to happen.”
As to prospects of seeing White House relationships with the press improve, Bannon “could care less.”
And my hunch is most Americans don’t care either, so long as the job gets done.
