Oh, SNAP! Texas Gov. Abbott fires back at NFL for threats over bathrooms and he scores a direct hit

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott just told NFL brass essentially “Don’t mess with Texas” and keep out of matters that don’t concern you.

The intense heat generated last year over North Carolina’s bathroom law, which assigns public restrooms and locker facilities to the sex indicated on one’s birth certificate, just moved southwest, and the NFL voiced an objection.

“If a proposal that is discriminatory or inconsistent with our values were to become law there, that would certainly be a factor considered when thinking about awarding future events,” league spokesman Brian McCarthy said, according to CBS News.

The league’s politically-correct argument is that the Texas bill under consideration discriminates against transgender individuals. CBS News reported that the bill provides that:

people would be required to use bathrooms that correspond to the sex on their birth certificate. It’s similar to a North Carolina law that prompted the NCAA to pull seven championship events from that state last year and is backed by Republican Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, a powerful figure in the state who had cited the Houston Super Bowl as proof that big events will stick around.

 

The NFL’s shot across the bow of the Lone Star State was answered with a direct hit delivered by Abbott that referred to other NFL decisions. He tweeted:

Pow! Got ’em where it hurts.

Despite the NFL benching Patriots quarterback Tom Brady for four games for the alleged “deflategate” controversy, New England went on to win the Super Bowl.

Incidentally, the league has already set future Super Bowl venues to the year 2021, and Texas isn’t on the list.

Another person observed that wasn’t the only bad call made by the NFL — there’s the matter of San Francisco 49er quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s refusal to stand during “The Star Spangled Banner.” How did that work out for the league?

Abbott’s tweet earned more replies rooted in common sense.

One Texas resident, however, threatened to move over Abbott’s decision. The reply was classic.

A former transgender person observed that such bathroom laws are not discriminatory at all. He explained that a person does not become transgendered until he has submitted to the grueling process of hormones and surgery and has had his birth certificate changed to indicate his new sex.
