‘Message received!’ Ted Cruz lays down the gauntlet to Dems on SCOTUS nominee

After President Donald Trump kept his promise to the American people by nominating U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Neil Gorsuch of the Tenth Circuit to the Supreme Court, Senator Ted Cruz appeared on Tucker Carlson Tonight to discuss the pick.

Calling Judge Gorsuch a “home run,” Cruz told Carlson that Trump has “kept his word.”

“He honored that commitment,” Cruz said. “It’s a big deal.”

“And I think Judge Gorsuch’s record,” the Texas senator continued, “he spent a decade on the court of appeals being faithful to the Constitution, following the law, demonstrating judicial humility, and not legislating from the bench and I think that’s exactly what the President promised the American people and it’s what we expect in a Supreme Court justice.”

Cruz said he thinks Gorsuch will be confirmed. After all, since his nomination to the U.S. Court of Appeals passed with a voice vote a decade ago, “what’s changed?”

The gauntlet was laid, however, when Carlson asked Cruz whether Gorsuch would pass with a simple majority, meaning the necessity of Republicans using the so-called “nuclear option” introduced by then-Senator Harry Reid.

“Well, we will see if Democrats decide they want to try to filibuster this nomination,” Cruz responded. “I hope they don’t. I think that would be a mistake for them to do so, but I tell you this Tucker, one way or another, I believe the Senate will confirm Judge Gorsuch to the Supreme Court. The Democrats are not going to succeed in filibustering this nomination, and President Trump is going to meet his promise to the American people.”

“One way or another, message received on that,” Carlson responded.
