Donald Trump has kept his promise to the American people by nominating U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Neil Gorsuch of the Tenth Circuit to the Supreme Court.
A constitutional originalist and a supporter of religious freedom, Judge Gorsuch is indeed a worthy successor to the late Justice Antonin Scalia.
And perhaps best of all, Judge Gorsuch, at a spry 49, could very well influence the Supreme Court, and thus the course of American history, for decades to come.
This Supreme Court pick was a key issue upon which Trump stated his case for the presidency, and he has now delivered in a YUGE way. Now it’ll be up to the Republican Senate to do right by the American people and confirm his nominee, with or without the vote of a single Democrat.
When Justice Scalia died unexpectedly almost one year ago, conservatives lost perhaps their most brilliant champion, a lion on the Supreme Court whose constructionist interpretation of the Constitution was a thorn in the side of liberals on countless occasions.
But it was worse than even that, because for the first time in a generation the court stood in grave danger of leaning decidedly to the Left with an Obama-appointed successor. That meant that any issue of concern to conservatives, from gun rights to religious freedom, would essentially be legislated from the bench.
It was more than a nightmare scenario, it could have literally meant the end of the American Republic as our rights slipped away one by one through judicial fiat.
After President Obama appointed the supposedly moderate Merrick Garland (OK, moderate by Obama’s standards, meaning he wasn’t a raging Communist), pressure mounted for Republicans in the Senate to go ahead and confirm. After all, when Hillary Clinton assumed office (remember when the Republican Establishment wasn’t giving Donald Trump a snowball’s chance?), wouldn’t she give us someone decidedly worse?
The Democrats and media lapdogs have labeled the position a “stolen seat.”
"Nominee for a Stolen Seat" "Moma, he stole my seat" – "Were you sitting in it"? Gotta love the 3 year olds!

But to his credit, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), displaying the cojones of a riverboat gambler, rolled the dice on a Trump victory and a chance, slim as he may have felt it was, to hold serve for conservatives on the Supreme Court.
As Trump would say, “so much winning.”
