Send the Feds to Chicago? Bring it on! say the Chicago police.
President Donald Trump served notice that he’ll send in federal reinforcement to Chicago if the killings continue in the murder capital of the United States.
Trump made the remarks on Twitter late Tuesday, writing: “If Chicago doesn’t fix the horrible ‘carnage’ going on, 228 shootings in 2017 with 42 killings (up 24% from 2016), I will send in the Feds!”
While liberals on Twitter reacted by claiming Trump wants to institute “martial law” in Chicago, the city’s beleaguered police department welcomed federal assistance. It’s unclear what Trump meant by “the Feds” or if the backup will be military or civilian.

“The Chicago Police Department is more than willing to work with the federal government to build on our partnerships with DOJ, FBI, DEA and ATF and boost federal prosecution rates for gun crimes in Chicago,” said Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson.
Earlier this month, Trump expressed outrage over Chicago’s record homicide rate in 2016, and said if Mayor Rahm Emanuel can’t handle it, he should ask for federal help.
Emanuel has been widely slammed for his impotence in curbing crime in Chicago, which has had a Democratic mayor since 1927.

While Chicago is the nation’s third-largest city, it had 762 homicides in 2016 — more than New York and Los Angeles combined. Chicago’s jaw-dropping murder rate is higher than it has been in 20 years.

What’s more, shootings in 2016 skyrocketed to 4,385 (both fatal and non-fatal) from 2,900 the previous year despite the fact that Chicago has some of the strictest gun-control laws in the United States.
Here’s how some clueless people on Twitter reacted to Trump’s tweet.
