A former Black Panther slammed Congressman John Lewis as a hapless stooge for the Democratic Party who needs to wake the hell up.
Author Mason Weaver, a former member of the militant Black Panther movement, made the remarks in response to Lewis’ comment that Donald Trump is “not a legitimate president.”
Weaver said Lewis is the fraud and called him an “illegitimate congressman” who presided over the “destruction of black America” in the years following the civil rights movement.
In 1965, Lewis was severely beaten (by Democratic segregationists) while marching across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama.
Lewis and his supporters have since used his participation in the mass 1960s civil rights movement to inoculate himself against attacks on his poor record of public service on behalf of black Americans.
Mason Weaver praised Lewis for his bravery 52 years ago, but wants to know: What have you done for us lately?
“He has done nothing,” Weaver said on Tucker Carlson Tonight. “John Lewis, bless his heart — it took courage to do what he did in his early life … [but] he has turned himself to his enemy.”

Weaver said Lewis used his civil-rights fame to get rich and powerful while doing little to help African-Americans escape the clutches of poverty and crime. “He’s gotten rich as black America has gotten more poor,” Weaver said.
Weaver also trashed Congressman Lewis for joining the Democratic Party, which he says has done nothing to help the African-American community.
“[Lewis is a] civil rights turncoat who collaborated with the Democratic Party to oppress black America,” Weaver said. “After they beat his behind on that bridge he got up and joined them. He joined the oppressors and became a stooge for them!”
Weaver suggested that if John Lewis actually cared about the plight of African-Americans, he would’ve joined the Republican Party alongside civil-rights icons Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass and Martin Luther King Jr.
The Democratic Party has always been the party of abuse, always been the party of the Klan, the party that waged war to keep slaves — the party that’s always been the destruction of black people.
Mr. Lewis, you have presided over the destruction of black America, and you owe us an apology.
Mason Weaver then urged Congressman Lewis to “be a man” and apologize to black America for failing them.

“If you’re a real man, John Lewis, you stand up tomorrow and you apologize,” Weaver said.
